Distance learning
HITNet and the HITN group are devoted to distance learning since their inception. Until the mid-90s, television and videoconferencing were the main media used for our distance learning contents and services. Since the explosion of the Internet and of easy on-line access, reinforced later by the availability of affordable broadband access, HITNet has carried out an intensive effort to take advantage of the immense possibilities of the Net and HTML formats for distance learning.

In the television field , since the late 90s, HITNet uses digital signal encoding and transmission for its distance learning services and programming, for the clear advantages of digital formats over old analog systems in terms of signal quality, cost-efficient transmission, convenience in storage, and interactivity. With this aim, advanced digital TV standards like DVB MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 are used to ensure an excellent quality of video and audio in HITNet distance learning contents and services. HITN-TV a TV channel focused on education and cultural matters has distance learning as one of its fundamental goals. One of the main programs of HITN-TV lineup since is Teleaprende .

Digital videoconferencing .
This is another video-based service, very useful for distance learning purposes, that HITNet has been offering to its customers since its inception. Videoconferencing can be held in many different ways, depending on the image quality required, the nature of information flows, the number of sites participating and the cost. Since our customers have plural needs and constraints in this respect, HITNet is very flexible in providing videoconferencong services in the way that our customers wish, in terms of:

  • Signal quality. Broadcast-class high-quality video, domestic video quality, or PC-based videoconferencing.
  • Signal nature. One-way video and two-way audio (using a telephone line as the return channel for remote sites), or two way full video and audio.
  • Sites involved. One-to-one, one-to-many, or several-to-many.
  • On-demand sporadic events, regularly scheduled events or permanent videoconferencing sessions.
  • Accessability: restricted conditional access, or open broadcasting.
  • Internet and on-line distance learning . HITNet and HITN have been aggregating, developing and distributing distance learning contents and services through the Internet for over 8 years now. Some of our products in the Internet field are the following:

Private TV
Private TV enables companies, organizations and institutions to produce and transmit a television signal with contents of their exclusive interest to a select number of viewers (a scholar community, the employees of a corporation, the customers or users of an organization, the businesses affiliated to a chamber of commerce, etc.). On the other hand, the digital revolution and the dramatic decrease in cost of TV production equipment and signal transmission has made of private TV an affordable and very interesting possibility for many institutions.

For this reason, combined with the high usefulness for distance learning of private TV, the solid know-how of HITNet in the field, and the telecommunications facilities and infrastructures developed by HITNet that can be used to provide and operate private TV systems for its customers, HITNet has included private as an essential item of its service portfolio.

HITNet provides turn-key private TV systems and operate them at the request of our customers. With the topology and features that your organization needs:

  • One or more hubs where your own TV contents are originitaed.
  • As many remote sites as you want, anywhere in Puerto Rico and the Americas .
  • With the signal quality adjusted to your needs and budget.
  • For transmitting TV anytime, or just some hours per day, week or month.
